Hey guys it’s Paris (11 year old)!!!!!!!
I’m going to tell you about when we had to leave Sapa :(
So at 5:15 pm we got a van to go to the train station. We may or may not have held the van up ’cause Lastborn, Venice, Onlyboy and I were not that ready to go (oops).
The car ride was full of switchbacks and I got car sick very fast. We got to the train station at 6:15 pm and had to wait and wait and wait. Firstborn, Onlyboy and I started to play a game we made up where you sing a song and then everyone has 10 seconds to sing a song that relates to it.
We played that for about a hour and then we had to get on the train happy and tired, hoping for a nice comfy bed like last time only to find a different “bed”. All it was was a paper-thin bamboo mat. There was also no glass in the compartment just an open grille so someone could reach in and take our stuff. With that thought in my head I stayed up all night.
When we got to Hanoi it was raining and I realised my hat was missing (du du duuuuu). It was my favourite hat so I was sad :(
We then had to find our hotel room (the same one we stayed at last time in Hanoi). It was 3 km from the Long Bien train station. After walking 12 kilometres that was no problem for us. All the trains from Lao Cai to Hanoi main station were full so we had to take a train to Long Bien station.
The neat thing about the Long Bien station is that it is right next to Long Bien Bridge. And guess what? The bridge was designed by Gustave Eiffel!!! It was built in 1903 by a French company and it looks kind of like a lying down Eiffel Tower. Okay not really but kinda. If you squint. Maybe. When I get to Paris I will compare. Anyway, it is called the Long Bien Bridge and it sure is long. It crosses the Red River and the train goes right over the bridge. So do thousands of motorcycles.
We had to take a break at a cafe half-way to our hotel because Venice really had to use the bathroom and they are hard to find here. The toilets in the train are NOT good and the ones in the train station are just as bad but you have to pay 2000 Vietnamese Dong (12 Canadian cents) to use them!!
After wandering, we found our hotel. We went up and now I am here writing about it :)
I hope you enjoyed reading this (I had fun writing it).
And so I hope you have a wonder full day (or had one).
