A lot of apartments in Europe are low to mid rise.  Some have lifts, some don’t.  Obviously, owners with upper level apartments in buildings without lifts will have to offer competitive prices to attract tenants.  We took an apartment on the 7th floor of an apartment with no lift.  Yay – more exercise!   Add the stair discount to the kooky lay-out discount and the price really isn’t that bad.

Not convinced that all those stairs are worth it?  Remember that you will get the best views of Paris the higher you climb…  Also remember all the pastries you’re going to be eating…

You may have heard elsewhere on this blog that we are on the 6th floor.  Potato, potahto.  What counts is the 105 stairs we need to climb to get home.  In North America, the ground floor is the first floor so when you go upstairs, you get to the 2nd, 3rd, 4th floors.  In Europe the ground floor is the ground floor and you when you go upstairs you get to the 1st, 2nd, 3rd floors.  Remember this when you are booking your apartment.  If you are North American, that 6th floor apartment is really on the 7th floor.
