We would’ve stayed longer in our lovely Slovenian wine cottage but we had already arranged a couchsurf in Samobor, Croatia.  Samobor is close to one of our favourite cities, Zagreb.  When we arrived, we learned that the family:

  1. was self employed and
  2. that their business was run out of their home and
  3. that they had three employees arriving every morning to work in one the rooms they were letting us camp out in and
  4. it was July – the highest season of the whole year.

Well, that moved us greatly.  To think that they would inconvenience themselves like that for complete strangers was touching.  They did everything they could to help us including letting us use their washing machine and printer.  They took time out of their busy days to accompany us to two museums, to the beach and to stroll around Samobor.  They treated us to ice cream and pastries.

HVALA!

Yachtlady is a woman committed to alternative education and healthy eating.  Her family is vegetarian and its members share a love of all creatures.  Her hat is the colour of the Adriatic Sea in which her yacht sails.  It is a warm hat because despite owning a yacht moored on the Croatian coast, she lives inland and winters here are cold.  It is knit in Cascades Lana Grande using 9 mm/US 13 needles.  The yarn is 100% Peruvian highland wool.  The pattern is a variation on the Sweet hat.
