Yesterday we left home (late of course) and made our way to our destination of St. Pacôme, about 1 1/2 hours east of Quebec City. On the way, we saw the best rainbow of my life. People were coming out of their homes to gape at the amazing sight. We arrived at dusk and the sunlight hitting the Charlevoix mountains on the other side of the river was also awe inspiring. The very same mountains we visited last month as part of our intense backcountry hiking expedition.
We stayed with a young couple and their fresh new baby. They informed us that they had had a last minute couchsurfing request from two cyclists. Even though they were already hosting 6 extra humans, they said yes on the condition that the bikers camp in the side yard. We all enjoyed dinner together and then turned in early.
Our hostess told us that the region has the most beautiful sunsets in the world. I laughed and said, “Every place says that!” She told me that National Geographic had named it one of the top in the world for sunsets. I guess we can spot a truly special sunset when we see one!
This morning, we set off for Fredericton, but not before spending a few hours in Kamouraska. A beautiful village with an amazing bakery. What more could one ask for?
